What Government and local authorities need to do

Policies to help logfuel deliver its potential to provide rural employment, save householders money, help manage woodlands properly and reduce CO2 emissions.

1) All new public buildings in rural areas to have woodfuel heating
2) Ban oil heating by 2020
3) All new houses in rural areas to be fitted with a log store/ chimney and stove
4) Provide grants, RHI payments or loans for domestic logstoves
5) Comprehensive support to improve the log fuel supply chain, including:

6) Research into size of log-fuel industry to monitor growth and developments and propose Government response if necessary

Better insulation is the most effective way of reducing heating bills and CO2 emissions, and so should be an even higher priority than woodfuel, but logfuel is the most carbon-efficient method of domestic space heating (woodchips are best for larger buildings).
